April 1, 1997. No joke — that's the day Mrs. B's Baskets opened for business. And while the name has evolved over the years, the mission has never wavered.

Today, as Baskets and Gifts by Design steps into its 30th year, we're taking a moment to look back at where it all began — and why it still matters.

The Problem With "Gift Baskets"

Here's the truth: when we started, most gift baskets on the market were an insult to the idea of gifting. Tape. Cardboard. Filler. Shredded paper hiding the fact that there wasn't much actually in the basket. Wrapped in cellophane and called a gift.

We refused to do that.

From day one, the mission was simple: real gifts. Real beauty. No fluff. Every basket we assembled would be something the recipient would actually want — full, thoughtful, and presented with the kind of care that makes opening it feel like an experience, not an afterthought.

The Name Behind the Business

We started as Mrs. B's Baskets — and many of you know us by that name still. Over the years, as the business grew and evolved (new product categories joined the family, and life brought its own changes), the name grew too. Mrs. B's Baskets and Gifts for a time, and eventually Baskets and Gifts by Design — a name that reflects the full breadth of what we do.

But whether you've known us for 29 years or 29 days, the heart of the business is the same: we design gifts that mean something.

29 Years. Countless Moments.

We've been there for new moms and grieving families. Corporate teams celebrating big wins and kids sending something special to a teacher who changed their life. Husbands who needed help finding something really good, and daughters who wanted Mom to feel like a queen.

Every basket has been part of someone's story. That's not something we take lightly — and it never will be.
